Big Green Tipi in North Wales

Activities

Sailing
Boat owners are welcome to bring their own dinghies, which can be left on our field when not in use. Sailing out of Abersoch, Nefyn or Morfa Nefyn gives access to some of the best sailing in the UK. Abersoch Sailing School is an RYA centre located on the main beach at Abersoch. They can provide training and also hire dinghies, catermarans, windsurfers and canoes. See also the Abersoch Sailing Club and the Pwllheli Sailing Club

Diving
If you own a copy of the Underwater Guide to North Wales, you will know what an abundance of underwater life there is around the Llyn Peninsula. If you don’t have a copy, you can borrow mine. The book gives detailed descriptions of dozens of beach dives and boat dives. Boat dives can be arranged with Shearwater. Book early!

Fishing
There are a number of local spots that are popular for fishing off the beach or the rocks. Fishing trips can be arranged with Owen fishing. Everything you need is provided. Expect to catch a lot of Mackerel, and with any luck Seabass, Rass, Huss.

Bird & Seal Watching
Boat trips around St Tudwals Islands and Bardsey can be arranged through Colin Evans with Llyen Holidays. If you fancy a day trip to Bardsey, or even staying a little longer, this can also be arranged through Colin.

Surfing
Learn to surf at North Wales’ premier surfing spot, Hell’s Mouth, with West Coast Surfing in Abersoch. Board and wetsuit hire is included with lessons.

Walking & Climbing
Discover some of the coastal paths, beaches and hill walks on the Llyn peninsula, or for the more adventurous we’re only a short drive from Snowdonia. Climbers might like to visit the cliffs at Tremadog, and have bite to eat from Eric Jones’ cafe, or go to Joe Brown’s shop in Capel Curig.

Cycling & Mountain Biking
A network of cycle routes allow you to explore the peninsula on two wheels. Most of these are on narrow counry roads, so watch out for raffic. Mountain bikers might want to spend the day at the Coed y Brennin centre.

Motorcycling
Bikers are welcome, and will enjoy some of the best roads in Britain on the ride over.

Steam Railways
North Wales has some of the most interesting steam railways in the country. Check out the Ffestiniog and Highland, or the Snowdon Mountain railways while you are visiting.

Portmeirion
Portmeirion was built by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis from 1925 to 1973 to demonstrate that development of a naturally beautiful site need not result in its defilement. He wanted to practice what he preached as a conservationist and capmaigner for the protection of the environment. The Portmeirion Village is a great day out.
